Well I guess Moneybookers was feeling stuck with its image of being a tool for the lads to upload some pound sterling to lose on the Football match. Moneybookers for sometime has moved away from online gambling perceptions and into web payment services and merchant accounts for international business. However that old stigma of being something for bookies and offshore banking still haunted their reputation.
So Skrill has been launched and Skrill is Moneybookers with some purple paint splashed on it and some chavtastic term that means "money" on the mean streets of Manchester. This is moneybookers drive to become as relevant as "google" or "paypal" and become the future of online payments across Europe, Turkey and parts of Eastern Europe and Asia.
No word yet if they will "improve" Moneybookers when they make the switch to Skrill
Here are my top 5 things they could do to market Skrill to its Chavy maximum
1. Hire Ali G as a spokesman !
2. Adopt a housing estate and rename it Skrill-town
3. When they make the sequel to "Attack the Block" have Skrill product placement every 5 minutes !
4. Full page add on every issue of the lads magazine "Nuts"
5. Have all CCTV cameras in downtown London sponsored so playback of any crime or rowdiness is emblazoned with the plum Skrill logo !
