Yes, Moneybookers is being rebranded to Skrill ! ....Skrill? Yes some marketing gurus decided what Moneybookers one of the most successful money transfer and international web payment systems needed to think outside the box and completely rebrand itself for generation whatever !?
Well Skrill sounds like a terrifying skin disease or comic book race of aliens but apparently it's some UK slang for money. I'm not sure how much brand recognition they will get outside of the UK and the name does not inspire confidence. I prefer Moneybookers to Paypal but the genius of the name Paypal is that you get an idea of what it is and a reassuring image along with it. Moneybookers you got the same idea and of course paying off your bookie was also a big part of the user base of Moneybookers!
So soon we will have the hip and trendy Kidulthood version of Moneybookers for the iphone 4G and 5G and 6G generation. Maybe they are right maybe Moneybookers brand was so Web 1.0. Moneybookers was doing very well and rarely does a corporation completely rebrand when its captured so much marketshare and subscriber loyalty. Could Skrill be the new coke? Could Skrill be catching the next wave of internet addicts? Skrill could be chavtastic!
